THE SIMON COMMISSION
ADVISORY COMMITTEE IN ENGLAND.

Nine members of the Indian Central Committee, who are now in London to co-operate with the Simon Commission, in completing the Statutory, Inquiry into Indian constitutional reforms, -wer entertained at dinner at the Carlton. Hotel, under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister, Mr Ramsay Mac Don-. aid. Many members of the Government and others were, aniong the company. A joint conference comprising the Simon Commission and the Central Committee had a further meeting yesterday, at the House of Lords, to hear, evidence.
Under the Government of India Act, 1919, provision was made for the apopintment of a Commission to inquire into the working of the Indian Constitution and consider the desirability of establishing, extending, modifying or' restricting the degree of responsible government obtaining in ten y 7 ears from that date. The Commission was appointed in 1927, and has made two visits to India, where it was received with a campaign of opposition and boycott. To assist the Commission the Indian Central Legislature was asked to appoint a committee to go to England for the purpose of conferring with the, Parliamentary Committee on the draft Bill based upon the Commission’s report. The report is not expected until 1930. •'.-..

Cadogan, M.P., Rt'Hon Vernon -Hartshorn, M.P., Coloriel 'LangFox,’M.P. (ex-Secretary for Mines Department) and Major C, R.• Attlee, M .P. (Under-Secretary for’ War in tlie Labour Government).
