The new Government’s desire to procure peace for the world was the subject of a. speech by the Prime Minister, Mr MacDonald last night.
“ I want to say that the peacemaker has to take risks, as well as the- warmakers,” lie said. “ When we have taken any risks at all we are going to give you the balance of the choice. There are risks of peace, as there are risks of war. 1 am banking upon the risks of peace, and if. the. nation is to take any risks at .all we are going to ask it to take the risk of peace rather than the risk of war.

RUGBY, June 30. Sir William Jowitt, K.C., AttorneyGeneral, was Inst night -adopted as Labour candidate by the Preston Trades and Labour Council for the by-election caused by Sir William’s resignation oil joining the Labour Party. The Preston Liberal Party lias not vet .decided .whether a Liberal candidate will be put forward. A, Conservative will contest the seat.
Immediately ..following, the general election .at the end pf-May-, Mr W. A. Jowitt, k.C. (as he then, was) an-nounced-.-his resignation. ; f tom .the Liberal. Party and his allegiance to the Labour, Party. He was appointed, Attor-ney-General by-. Mr MacDonald, when the .‘Cabinet -was. -named. ‘ Owing to adverse criticism from members of bis original party, Sir William resigned liis seat, Preston, and submitted himself for re-election at the consequent byelection. • !
