BYRD’S LATEST REPORT. (United Press Association. —By ElectricTelegraph.—Copyright) WASHINGTON, June 28. Commander Byrd submitted a report to the Navy Department from “Little America ” to-’dijy, stating that his, ex r pedition has examined twenty thousand square miles of a hitherto unknown area in the Antarctic region. 1 The report notes the discovery and survey of the Rockefeller mountain range in January and February, saying : “These mountains consist of a group of scattered, low-lying, snow-swathed pe.aks and ridges, curving froni latitude 78.14 degrees south,, and longtitude 155.18 degrees east, and - curving thence towards the east as far as longtitude 153.25 west, and thence northwards terminating at latitude 77.47 degrees west. These mountains are largely composed of granites, and a precursory examination suggests that they are pre-Cambrian and therefore are not allied with the mountains which lie to the west of the Ross Barrier, but are probably of the same ' origin as the Alexandra mountains.” 1

Commander Byrd then describes other mountain ranges which are visible, saying: “These are in land east of the 150th meridian, which we have named Mary Byrd Land, and which, we have claimed for the United States. It is thought that this is probably a vast land.” k • '
