EMDEN’S OFFICERS
ENTERTAINED AT AUCKLAND. (By Telegraph—Press Association). AUCKLAND, June 28. A private reception, arranged by a committee of the citizens, in honour of the officers and cadets of the German cruiser “Eniden” was held at the Scots Hall to-niglit. There was a brilliant gathering, and the proceedings were very enthusiastic. Speeches of welcome were made by Mr Laugguth, chairman of the Committee, and Sir George Fowlds. Capt. Von Arnauld Pereirre, commander of the Eniden, replied, expressing keen appreciation of the hospitality extended in Auckland. He said that the Eniden had been sent out as a dove of peace, and since it had rounded North Head, it had met with a spirit of friendship. H'akas and poi dance were "given by a Maori party, and the Band from the Eniden played "music for the dances.
