PALMERSTON N., June 27
Monday’s tornado was only tw doors away from Mr A. J. Kdwardr '’T'X'Crv shop at the corner of Coe and Ferguson Streets in the west end of Palmerston North, but the premi es escaped that visitation unscathed. However, had it returned in the earl hours of the morning and levelled the place, Mr Edwards would hardl; have been aware of it.
It is stated that at about 2 o’cloc 1 an entrance was forced from the real of tiie premises, which are shop an< living quarters combined and stealthy hands found their way to the sleeping forms of Mr and Mrs Edwards. The; were then supposedly ehlorcforme evidence of which lay in the fact that the room was permeated by the familiar, sickly odour of the anaesthetic, any prospect of an alarm being raised having been desperately removed. The thief or thieves entered the storeroon at the other side of the passage, and removed about 10 boxes of cigarettes. They also took cash from a repository in the shop to the amount of £lO. Mr Edwards and the police are reticent.
