LATE LOCALS.
There was a lieavy hailstorm this morning about 11 o’clock lasting several minutes. When it had cleared off there was a break in tho clouds and it was seen that the foothills at Kokatahi were covered with a white mantle. The atmosphere was very cold.
Roplyng in a northern paper to “Worried Motorist,” who claimed that increased penalties should he made against cyclists without tail-lights, “Worried Cyclist” writes:—“l have sympathy for your correspondent, ‘Worried Motorist.’ Three or four times during the last couple of nights I have narrowly escaped running down pedestrians who have no tail-lights on their backs. The cyclist cannot see these pedestrians until he is almost on them, and then it is more by luck than good judgment that an accident is averted. I really think that the Courts should inflict heavy fines on such pedestrians. The cyclist who rides without a rear light or reflector is fined 10s, and costs, yet the pedestrian gets off scot-free.”
