THE SESSION OPENS. (By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON, June 28. The second' session of the twentythird Parliament of New Zealand was opened at 2.30 o’clock yesterday afternoon by the Governor-General. '1 lie weather was overcast. ’.lhere was a large assemblage of the public in the parliamentary grounds and the galleries in the Legislative Council Chamber, where the chief took place, were crowded with a brilliant gathering. In fact, the seating accommodation was insufficient to cope with the throng which gathered. A brief meeting of the Legislative Council was held shortly after the eonelusion of the opening ceremony. Sir 'J'hos. MacKoivde and Dr Collins who were reappointed to the Council last year hut were absent during the 1928 session, were formally sworn in. Notices of motion were given by the Loader of the Council. Hon. T. Sidey, in respect to a call of the Council on 10th duly for the purpose of electing a Speaker. Hon. Gow gave notice to move an Address-in-Reply motion. The Council rose at 3.25. In the House. Mr Bodkin (Otago Central) gave notice lie would move an Address-in-Reply, the debate on which, the Prime Minister announced, would begin on Tuesday.
