Air was pumped into the mine and the men stated that had it not been for this they would have been suffoer.( ed. The iin,prim med men were hoard try mg to dig their way to safety with picks and shovels. ■When liberated, some were in an extremely weak condition. On June 3rd. three Italians were overcome by foul gas in this mine and died.
