Forty-eight miners were trapped owing to sea water breaking through into the Kyushiu coal mine. -A rescue squad, whose number is uncertain, have also been cut off, through the bursting of the safety doors. All hope of rescue has been abandoned. The mine, which extends a. considerable distance under the sea, is completely flooded.
