ALLOCATION OF GRANTS. IMPROVED METHOD OFDISTRIBUTION. WELLINGTON, June 25. The preparation of the Public Works estimates has enabled local authorities to discover that changes are being made in the proportion of public works road grants to various road districts. Eight counties in North Auckland arc combining to intervie,w the Hon E. A. Ransom, Minister of Public Worlds, on the subject with a protest against what they allege to be a 25 per cent, “cut” in their allocations.

The position is not exactly as they believe. Grants are allocated to road districts on a formula designed to give Kelp where most needed, and where local ratepayers are heavily burdened. However, it has been found that this method is not equitable throughout tlie Dominion, and the Minister ol Public Works has made changes.
