FIFTY RICKS FIRED.
| ALDERSHOT, May 3. Fifty policemen on motor-cycles and in cars searched the countryside early yesterday morning for a lunatic who, it is alleged, fired (50 ricks of hay in the North Hampshire district. The fires ibegan at about 3 a.m.. and every farm within a radius ot 10 miles was affected. Twenty ricks, some miles apart, were destroyed, the sky being lit up by the flames. During the morning Harold Erie Silvester, aged 30, was taken to the police station hero and detained. This afternoon he was certified as insane. and removed to a mental home. It is stated that Silvester contracted sunstroke in Mesopotamia while serving in the Army after the war.
