INQUEST VERDICT. (By Telegraph—Press Association). WELLINGTON, Juno 26. At the inquest on Ambrose Gregory. a railway ganger, run down and killed at Kaiwarra bridge on June loth, a ‘verdict of accidentally killed, with no blame attachable to the driver of the train, was returned. SCOPE OF R.S.A. WELLINGTON, June 26. The scope, future and name of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers Association will all be brought up and discussed as the result of various remits to-day. A proposal that the name be altered to the British Empire League, New Zealand branch, was referred to local Associations, with a view of having the matter brought up at the next Dominion Council meeting at Christchurch. The Association was asked to draft rules in accordance with its suggestion-that the scope be more definitely defined and circulate thorn to Associations for consideration. An addition was made to provide additional to the Dominion VicePresidents, Vice-Presidents to be representative of Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury, Westland, Otago and Southland. ROYAL AGRICULURAL SOCIETY. i ' 1 ANNUAL MEETING. . f • j WELLINGTON, June 26. The annual meeting of\ the Royal Agricultural Society opened with Mr Peary in the chair. He said it was with pleasure he was able to state the,. Society had progressed a .little in fin-1 ancial matters. The year had igi veil; them a little over £4OO more "than ‘the previous year, hut at the same time that did not come up to the membership and he had to admit the membership was getting less. Last year it was 642 and this year 467. Speaking of the Show he said the time was. coming when all stock should he under cover, ‘even if the classes had to cut down. KICKED BY A HORSE, CARTERTON, June 26. A young man, Joseph Spicer, aged 18, a son of. W. Spicer, Anderson’s Lane, met with a serious accident yesterday afternoon. When riding-,.-, a,, motor cycle, he attempted to pass two j young horses being led to a paddock;.' One lashed out and a hoof struck Spicer on the jaw. He was picked up and taken home unconscious. Dr Marton was called and an> examination showed a fractured jaw, concussion and head injuries. He was admitted to Masterton Hospital ,and the latest report" stated' had regained consciousness.":..'.

J; Stallworthy has given ( i;ise to the rumour that the Department "of Forestry is to ,be merged ’ witlr- the Lands Department. Hon. W. B. At the Royal Show Society the following officers were elected :—President, Mr Perry; vice-president, Mr Troup (North Island); treasurer, Mr W- D. Hunt. Council—Alexander Johnston and Weir (South Island); Linklater, M.P., Massey, Park (North Island). Auditor, Lambert. The rules were altered providing'the quorum of the Council be nine...
