AIR ENQUIRY
ULM’S STATEMENT. NO MORE PRESS CONTRACTS. (Australian Press Association). SYDNEY, June 25. Before the Southern Cross flight began, Lieut. Ulm informed the press representatives that the crew was under no contract to any newspaper this time. He said : “Our last trouble started over a newspaper war, and we are not going to be led into another.” Lieut. Ulm added that their libel action against the “Daily Guardian” was definitely going on, but the Court was so congested that it could not be reached before December. He said that this flight was being undertaken as their own private business. SMITH’S COMMENT QN INQUIRY. SYDNEY, June 25. Before the start of the. Southern Cross, Kingsford Smith, in an interview, said that the Inquiry Committee’s report on the forced landing was a complete vindication of the crew of the Southern Cross, but he regretted that their human faults had not been overlooked. AIR ENQUIRY REPORT. • OPINION OF AVIATORS. (Received this day at 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, June 29. Arrived at 5.50. a.m, Maheno from Wellington. ' SYDNEY, June 29. McWilliams the wireless operator of the Southern Cross commenting on the report of the air inquiry says, “My congratulations on the splendid report drawn up by those gentlemen. They proved extercmcly intelligent and apparently know all about everything. Further than that, the report is not worthy of comment. Litchfield said—“l hardly bothered reading the report. It does not interest me what they say. I consider it was a waste of good money holding the inquiry.” Canton stated: “The report does not exist as far as I am concerned.”
