LATE LOCALS.

There was a mild shock experienced this afternoon at 1.50 o'clock.

Interruptions to the telegraph lines between the Coast and Christchurch occurred this morning and at 2.20 p.m. we were advised that contact was again being established between Hokitika and Christchurch. ■ •

The picture announced in another column to be shown to-night at Everybody’s Pictures has had to be postponed and instead “ The Fifty-Fifty Suit,” starring Bebe Daniels will be screened.

Mr J. A. Murdoch has been appointed acting-Chairman of the Hokitika High School Board owing to tlie illness of Hon H. L. Michel, and miring the latter’s attendance at his ParTamentary duties.

The Canterbury winter show and exhibition of primary and secondary industries committee has issued its schedule for the winter show to be held at Christchurch from August 10th t to 24th. There are many interesting features, including the home industries section, mechanical model classes and competitions for apprentices. .

The Hon. H. L. Michel, who has I'een laid up for some time is now progressing and was able to get down to Ins office this morning. He is not leaving yet for his parliamentary duties, having been granted 14 days’ leave, but hopes to be able to attend to these duties at the end of that time.
