THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.

EMPIRE HISTORY IN EDUCATION. With the growing interdependence of the units m the British Commonwealth of Nations, a wider in every British country, of the other parts of the Empire, has become much more necessary, as a means of fostering inter-imperial trade, apart altogether from reasons of politics or sentiment. One of the most satisfactory ways of inculcating this knowledge is by devoting adequate attention in the schools to the recent history and the geography of the Empire; but hitherto the teaching of these subjects . has neglected unwarrantably the history or IEV last half century, particularly its imperial aspects, in which the dominating movements have been towards consolidation and economic development. —London Journal.
