President Gil announced a settlement of the controversy between the Roman Catholic Church and the Government of Mexico, on the following basis: — (1) That the Mexican Government shall allow the Catholic Hierarchy to designate priests to register m compliance with Mexican laws. (2) That religious instructions shall not bo permitted in schools, but shall be permitted within churches. (31 That the right shall be reserved to the Catholic Prelates to apply for a modification of the Constitution at any time in the future, which same right is granted to all Mexican citizens.
