BANDITS RAIDS
TRAIN HELD UP
United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright, j (Received this day at 8 a.m.) NEW YORK, June. 22, News from Martinez (California) states two robbers held up the 'Southern Pacific passenger train, shot and wounded the engine driver and escaped with loot which may amount to 130,000 dollars. The bandits used a machine gun, mounted on an automobile and fusiInded the engineer when lie declined to stop the train. They then held the crew at hay while they systematically went through the mail sacks. AIR ATTACK DEFENCE. (Received tin's day at 8 a.m.) WASHINGTON, June 22. The Secretary of War, (Mr Good) has approved of the programme forti"'••ing every important American city against aerial attack, and will ask preliminary congressional grant of thirteen million dollars for the purpose.
