Steps designed to lead to more extensive relations in intcr-Impcrial trade tire being taken by the Canadian Government, according ,to .the Finance Minister, Mr Roli.b, who is quoted by the Ottawa correspondent of .the Montreal Star as stating that communications have already been addressed to the Governments of all the overseas i/omiu.ions on the subject. The Star adds: Mr D. H. Ross, Canadian Trade Commissioner i.n Australia, has asked Mr Rqbb if the Australian-Canadian tariff pact is to he revised. M,r Robb stated his reply thereto was: AA’e are gp.ing much further than that. AVe are communicating with all of the Dominion Goyernments, looking towards greater Imperial trade development. The Minister refused further to elaborate, beyond admitting that the Canadian .communication was likely to lead to a conference on the subject. The paper states: AATiat is in view is a policy of preferential Imperialism and development of trade within the Empire by means of an exchange of preferences, the common inference being tiiat this development comes in seque.nce to the new ,Uuited States.
