MR ATMORE REPLIES
TO RECENT CRITICISM. NELSON, June 20 The Hon H. At more made the following statement in reply to the Chairman of the Wellington Education Board (previously telegraphed;: Yesterday I received a telegram, from the Secretary of the Board intimating that the Board was dealing with the appointment of a Vice-Prin-cipal at Wellington Training College, and asking me for a reply. The Secretary also stated that the Board profoundly regretted the earthquake damage in Nelson ' City. I replied ihanking the Board for its kindly message, and intimating that I would deal with the mm' tors referred to immediately upon my return. In view of a message from the Secretary showing quite clearly that members of the Board were cognisant of the reason for my departure from Wellington rather hurriedly, I think the attitude of the Chairman is inexplicable (said Mr Atmore). A'ppaifetatly he fails to recognise the. distress occurred by the recent earthquake as sufficient reason for postponing what is relatively a small matter, and it is difficult to understand his state of mind. I be..eve -in first things first, hence my attention to matters here, and later attention to the minor question.
