BISHOP SEDGWICK RESIGNS
NAPIER, June IG. The Right Rev W. W. Sedgwick, Bishop of waiapu, has tendered bis resignation to the Primate, to take effect at the end of the present year. The Bishop gives as liis reason that he feels that the work of the diocese should be in charge of a younger man with full vigour. The Bishop is in his sixteenth year as Bishop, having succeeded Arlicbishop Avenlf. The Right Rev W. W. Sedgwick was born in 1858. He was curate at Wateringbury, Kent, in 1882; chaplain lt.N., serving in marine battalion with ships at Suakim; chaplain H.M.9. Thunderer in 1885; vicar oi St Patrick’s Hockley Heath, 1886-9; rector of /ryburg. British Bechuanland, 188913, and of Bedford, Capo Col#ng, 18930. He was curate of Eversliot, Dorset, in 1897. Coming to New Zealand in 1901, lie was vicar of W'aikari till 1903, and for a brief time was in •barge of tbe parish of Akaroa. He ,vas vicar of St. Luke’s, Christchurch, from 1904 to 1914. In the latter year be was consecrated Bishop of Waiapu.
