LATE LOCALS.
On account of the frequency of earthquakes the golf match arranged for this coming week-end with a Greymouth team at Hokitika, has been postponed for a fortnight. Owing to the unfavourable weather and the frequency of earth tremors, the concert and ball to have been held in the Rimu Town Hall this (Wednesday) evening has been postponed indefinitely.—Advt. The State School was closed at midday to-day for the remainder of the week. The pupils were so much upset by the recurring earthquake shocks that it was considered in The best interests of all to close the school pro tern. The heavy earthquake on Monday interfered considerably with the gas reticulation service. In some cases it has been found joints of piping have been torn asunder. There was considerable leakage yesterday, but to-day it is being overtaken, and the supply is being well maintained. Mr Heinz, the Manager, considers that the new holder saved the position in maintaining a uniform supply of gas in the emergency.
