i United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright).

LONDON, June 15

The legal newspaper Justice of the Peace, commenting on Mr Ramsay MacDonald’s legal appointments, says: Mr Justice Sankey’s appointment as Lord Chancellor lias been received with great satisaction by both the Bar and uie public, but even Sir Henry Slesser’s friends have been left gasping at the very special honour bestowed upon him, he being comparatively a junior member of the Inner Bar. There is an old saying that lawyers do not have a conscience, and although we do not for a moment suggest that Mr Jowit't (Attorney-Gieneral) has not many excellent reasons for changing his political faith so rapidly, we think that his action will foster an unpleasant idea that there is a grain of Crufh in this old gibe. Nevertheless, the Prime Minister-must be congratulated upon his most astut?

LONDON, June 16

Mr MacDonald’s official communique after conversation with Mr Dawes states: “We’ve had a conversation regarding the present position of the question of disarmament between United States and Great Britain. It has been informal, general and most satisfactory. Dawes proposed to refer the subject at the Pilgrims Dinner on June 18th. I shall do the same at the same time at Lossiemouth. It is intended to bo the beginning of negotiations. AYe both wish to make clear our naval powers are to co-operate with negotiation? upon the successful consummation of which fate, the world depends.”
