DARING BURGLARY
CASH REGISTER TAKEN. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, June 16. When a. customer entered Mr V. C. Stephens’ baker’s shop on Saturday night, lie gave a,n order which necessitated a short absence of.the attendant from the front shop. When she returned, the customer had disappeared, and she had a . feeling that something else was missing, but she could not think what it was. She, summoned the proprietor, who discovered that it was the cash register that was missing. He rushed out and saw a car dash up the street. Thus was disclosed a most impudent burglary. The register contained £l7. It was valued at £6O, and it weighed 701bs. A young man drove up to the shop in an expensive Sedan car and he evidently watched the premises for about ten minutes. A pedestrian saw him hurry out of 'the shop, carrying something heavy, covered with a travelling rug. He placed bis burden in the back of the car, and quickly drove away. The burglary was committed at the busiest hour of the evening, about 8 o’clock, when the footpath was filled with pedestrians and customers passing in and out of the shop.
