SOUTH ISLAND MAIN TRUNK LINE

PROGRESS OF SURVEY. WELLINGTON. June 14. Survey work on the coastal route of c.io South Island main trunk railway is being expedited in order that the lormation and track laying may be proceeded with as soon as possible. A survey party is working from Parnassus northwards pegging out the route and another party is engaged near the Clarence River on heavy work there. This latter party is being reinforced by two officers to enable much faster progress to be made. Four miles of surveying has been done aireadv south*of Wharauui. About sixty men are busy at this end cleaning up and preparing for track laying, while a contract lias been let lor the erection of huts to'accommodate the men who will bo engaged later.
