CONCESSION G RANTED
EXTRACTION OF SALTS

A White Paper gives the names of the financial supporters of Alajor 1 nlloch and Airs Novomeysky, to whom, as already stated in Parliament, has been granted the concession for the extraction of salts from the Dead boa. These are:—
Messrs Basil Alontgomcry and Company, London; .Messrs C. 'lennant, Sons and Company, Limited, London; .Messrs Pauling and Company. Limited, London; Mr Leslie Urqiihart (Chairman of the Russo-Asiatic Consolidated Company. Limited.' London); The Jewish Colonial Trust, 'Limited, London; The Palestine Economic Corporation. New York. "It is understood,” the AVhite Paper adds, “that the Earl ol L.vtton will he the chairman of the company that will be formed to operate the concession, and that directors of some of the firms mentioned above will be on the hoard of directors ol that company. "It is also understood that it is the intention of Major Tulloeli and Air Novomeysky, in agreement with their financial supporters, that the articles of association of the company should contain a provision to the effect that British subjects, or British subjects and Palestinian citizens together, should form the majority of tile hoard of directors of the company. ’ Air Ormsbv-Gore (Under-Secretary for the Colonies) stated in the House of Commons on April 22nd that the draft concession had been accepted by the Government of Palestine and the Arab Government of Transjordania. The Earl of Plymouth (Under-Seere-tarv for the Dominions) stated in the House of Lords that the Government were satisfied with the financial hacking of the scheme.
The Earl of L.vtton is a grandson of Lord Lvtton.’ the famous novelist, and a son' of the first Earl, who was Viceroy of Tudia. He was born at Simla in 1870 and his official connexion with India began in 1020. when he was appointed Under-secretarv of State for that- Department. He also became chairman of the committee on Indian students in Britain. I'rom 1922 to 1927 he was Governor of Bengal, and during the Marquis of Beading’s absence in 1925 lie acted as Viceroy.
