SALVAGING AN ANCHOR. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June 13. An unusual accident ■ occurred yesterday on the tanker Brunswick, which arrived at. Auckland from -San Pedro on Tuesday nignt. When the anchor was being raised preparatory to the vessel berthing at the Western wharf, a pin came out of one of the shackles, with the result that the anchor and forty-five fathoms of cable sank to the bottom of the harbour The salvaging of the lost cable and the anchor, which together weighed about twelve tons, was a difficult matter. SUBSTANTIAL BEQUESTS. CHRISTCHURCH, June 15. Under the will of the late Mrs Sarah Ann Ensoul, of Christchurch, £SOO is bequeathed to the New Zealand Labour Party, £I,OOO to the local Workers’ Educational Association as well as other bequests totalling £9OO for various charities. , GRANT FOR RADIUM. , CHRISTCHURCH, June 15. Thirty-six special radium needles at a cost of £I4OO have been ordered for Christchurch Hospital, tlie 'Government having agreed to grant £1 for £1 subsidy oil tlie £7OO granted for radium cuqipmeut by the trustees of the Travis bequest.
