Nevertheless the Council has to obtain a satisfactory basis ifor" getting its idle men in the north hack to work speedily before the danger is over. The Council recommended the appointment of a special committee to endeavour to suppress mass picketing. It also agreed to appoint a committee of three to investigate the charges of the engine-drivers that their members have Icon accused of treachery by the miners,l)ll the coal fields because they carried out the instructions '<tf the combined unions to remain at work meanwhile.

Reports , from Knrri Karri disclose flu* miners yesterday threatened to picket the collieries in that district. Strong forces of police from Newcastle were drafted to a secret rendezvous on the coal fields last night in anticipation of trouble during the week-end. The engine-drivers at Killingworth decided not to haul any more.

Coal advices from Brisbane state Queensland is not likely to be aflected bv the strike.
