THE NAGAITAHU CLAIM. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, June 14. At the Native Land Court this morning, Tuiti Makitanara (Southern Maori ALP.) when dealing with the'Ngaitaliu tribe claim, which lias been the subject of litigation for 80 years, stated that notwithstanding the Royal Commission’s recommendation of £354,000 to tribal beneficiaries in compensation for the sale of Canterbury _ province, no Parliament had put this recommendation into 'force, but now as a result of strong recommendations' to the Native Minister, the Premier had expressed his intention to ask Parliament to appropriate £500,000 as compensation. In a further statement the member said proposals were afoot to erect at a cost of £3OOO, probably m Dunedin, a huge, carved Maori house.
