FOOTBALL.

WEST COAST RUCBY UNION.

The ordinary weekly meeting of the West Coast Rugby Union Executive was held last evening at Greymouth. Mr A. A. Adams presiding. In reference to the protest entered by t he United Club against P. Ryan playing for Excelsior Club while lie was allegedly a member off the Kokatahi Club, the Sub-Union advised that Ryan did play for the, Kokatahi junior club on 2, tli April; He was, however, a financial .senior member of the Excelsior Club at the time, and has never been transferred to Kokatahi. The Chairman stated the facts seemed perfectly clear that Ryan was a financial member df. the Excelsior Club. The fact that lie played for a junior club did not enter, into the question. He moved that the protest be dismissed. This was seconded and carried.

The. .Secretary contended that the Kokatahi Club should be censured for allowing a senior plavor to take part in that match, and they be asked to state their reasons for so doing. A motion to that effect was passed.

The Sub-Union gave notice that it was their intention in future to commence senior matches at 2.45 p.m. It was resolved to reply that the 1. ivn could not see its way clear to commence matches with Greymouth teams at Hokitika beffore 3 p.m. In connection with the visit of the British team, the New Zealand Union asked for information as to the capacity of the grounds at Greymouth, and seating accommodation available. The Secretary was instructed to supply- the information asked for.

The Nelson Union advised the acceptance of 27th July for the Seddon Shield match with West Coast. The Secretary was instructed to write Kumara Club advising them that they had not the right _to play L. Martyn, a senior United player, and a repetition of a similar offence would incur a penalty upon them. The representative match between Westland and Grey juniors was fixed to take place on (sth July at Hokitika. A suggestion that the Grey and Hokitika senior B representatives play a match in Greymouth on 6th July, the teams to be chosen from the players not selected in the West Coast reps, was made a motion and carried. Hokitika are to be informed df the resolution, and enquiry made as to whether such arrangement is suitable to them. The Assistant Commissioner of Stamp Duties advised that the members of the Union are “liable to a prosecution for its 'failure to register the entertainment” (West Coast v. Merivale match), and to make necessary arrangements for payment ■. of amusement tax. Tax was required at the rate of 3d per head on. all who paid for admission to tlic stand. Earliest attention to.the matter was requested, records to be formed immediately. It was resolved to send a letter of protest to the Commissioner of Stamps at Wellington, and the N.Z.
