JOCKEYS’ RING
FATAL OUTCOME. (Australian Press Association) BRISBANE, June 11. At the inquiry into the death ol the jockey, Rylatt, who was killed at Kedron Park Races on May 27th, Reginald Harvey, a personal friend of the deceased, said that during a conversation he had with Rylatt in the hospital. Rylatt said: “It is no use complaining. There is a ring of jockeys, and you have no chance if you are not in it.”Witness- added that jockeys were over-anxious when somebody laid them a few pounds to nothing. AN OWNER’S STATEMENT. PERTH. June 10. At a meet ing of the .AA est Australian Turf Club, some plain speaking was indulged in. Air P. A. Connolly, the well-known racing owner, caused a stir when he remarked: “Racing was never so dirty as it is now. Tho jockeys had a sort of freemasonry, and they would always keep each other out ol trouble.” , Dr Holland declared that the stewards did not conduct nearly enough inquiries into inconsistent running.
