The rehearsals of the St. Paul’s Dramatic Club are now in full swing lor Barrie’s inimitable play, “A Kiss for Cinderella,” which they will stage in the Princess Theatre on Thursday, August Ist. next. The Blackball Mine, after having been idle since Wednesday last, was to resume coal production this morning. It is understood that the demand for coal is now better in New Zealand than in recent months, partly oil account of the Australian lock-out, so that’ there should be plenty of work for all the Blackball men concerned in the terms of settlement.

For the first time in many months, the amount of goods hauled through the Otira tunnel last week was below that of the corresponding week in 1928. Last week 10,349 tons were hauled through, the figures for 1928 being 10,400 tons. The difference is accounted for by the King’s Birthday, which fell on a Sunday last year. This year it Ifell on Monday and no goods traffic was worked on that day.

The Canterbury Progress League has sent a telegram to the Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) expressing appreciation of his statesmanlike attitude regarding the South Island Main Trunk Baihvay, and assuring him of its wholehearted support.
