FORGED BANK-NOTES. NICE, April 16. Two Czech brothers named Kemdi, who were arresLcd on a charge of ifaud, have been found in possession of a number of perfectly imitated English bank-notes. Barclays Bank officials state that had they not been warned the forgeries would have passed unnoticed. 'Jiie brothers, who have resided some time in England, arc alleged to have said that they did not pass the spurious notes because the impression did not satisfy them, but the people believe that a large number of the forged notes have been put into circulation.

Signs that card sharpers are again busy among Trans-Atiantic travellers appeared to-day when Mr Duncan MacLeod, a Canadian living in England, landed from the White Star liner Majestic and complained to the police that he had lost £B,OOO in a few “friendly” rubbers in the ship. He said he was first invited to piny by a man who described himseli as a rich mineowner Irom Montana, and after some whirlwind games he was informed that he owed £B,OOO. Later he was told that £2OOO would he accepted. He made out two cheques to cover this amount, but later wirelessed to his bank to slop payment. SECRET ARSENAL. THREE ARRESTS IN INDIAN POLICE RAID. LAHORE, April 1(5. The Lahore police raided a house in a narrow lane ot tlie city to-day. A man who met them on the threshold, was pounced upon, and a revolver was found Kidded under his clothes. A search of the house revealed nine loaded bombs, eight of which battik?* lecn filled with detonators, a pistol, and a loaded revolver. Three Hindus were arrested. They gave false names, but it is believed that they are members of the Naujawan Bharat Sablia, a young men’s political and religious society. One of the rooms was equipped as a bomb factory, containing implements for the manufacture of chemicals and explosives. REVOLT THWARTED. POLdCE ARREST PORTUGUESE EX-PREMIER. LISBON, Portugal, April 10. The Portuguese police have arrested ;n number of former politicians, who are alleged to have been implicated in a revolutionary attempt against tho riictatorship.
