FLOOD DAMAGE
Advice was received yesterday afternoon that the protection';wall at Little "Wanganui had held and prevented the river from overflowing into the Harihari settlement, which''in previous floods had been menaced very seriously. This was good news, but further reports indicated that the stone abutment at the lower, (end of of the wall, abutted the river, had gone, evidently' beep ■ undermined. The river ' was running in strong at the point, ;and also, at the upper end near the old road approach to the ford crossing the river. The position will he inspected this jnorn T ing by Air- Fitzgerald, Road‘.Overseer, and; later Air T. A. Johnston, district engineer. Further south', at Parker’s ’Creek, the stream was reported “to have . eroded badly and affected the foundation of the main south roatl bridge at that point. The structure was beihg secured by ropes. This bridge is an important link’ on* tile south trip,.' and its loss would inconvenience .-traffic* seriously. Further reports wi}| be awaited with interest. '
