The heaviest rain during the past two days, appear to have ranged from Hokitika south. There was not a large flood in the Arahura river, and no damage is reported from the north, itain began to fall heavily in the south on Tuesday morning, which accounts for the flooding that day blocking motor traffic. The flood here yesterday was a very high one, and caused loss of small stock to Mr J. J. Mclntosh and others, through the sudden rising of the Hokitika river. The flood waters at Harihari yesterday were also very high about the settlement, and it would have been a serious matter if the overflow from Little Wanganui river had come in again, but fortunately the protection wall being built there held the flood wateis back successfully.
