The serious position existing in Blenheim in regard to unemployment was placed before the Minister of Labour, Mr Veitcli, by a deputation last week, and the Minister undertook to go into the matter with his colleague, the Minister of .Public Works, with a view of providing work to relieve the . position. ' , Meantime, the unemployment has grown steadily worse, and, though a number of men have been accomiioda- . ted with jobs there are still 96 men on * che register at the Post Office,' and many of them are breadwinners for large families. During the last few days/The Mayor, •Ir M. McKenzie, and the 'member for ( tne district, Mr E. F. Healy, ha-.e been besieged by men anxious-to secure work of any kind. This morning, with a view of hastening matters, Mr Healy, M.P., despatched a telegram to Mr E. A. Ransom, .Minister of Public Works, urging him to take immediate measures to cope with the situation. Mr Healy added that the local unemployed felt resentment at the fact of outsiders being seiit by the Department in his district while there were so many bona fide residents idle.
