KING’S EMPIRE VETERANS
GOVERNOR-GENERAL’S ADDRESS. AUCKLAND, June 3. Speaking at tlie King’s Empire Veterans’ luncheon to-day, the Gover-nor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson. said the title of linig’s Empire Veteran was the proudest a man could bear and there were before him man) worthy hearers of the title. “I see on the breast of one veteran the New Zealand Cross and medals of the Indian Mutiny and Crimean War,” said his Excellency. ,l I see beside him two wearers of the Victoria Cross —three noble decorations in line, and three men of Whom the Empire may well be proud. “It is well to remember,” continued Sir Charles, “that in honouring the veterans we are honouring men who built up the Empire and made NewZealand what it is to-day. Other wars have come and gone, but we must not forget those who,- in troublous and in peaceful times, helped to build up the Empire and to carry on its finest traditions.”
