A small shnol of whitebait made its appearance in the Buffer Biver last week. .Mr J. Kaye, employed at Armstrong's mine, Dunollie, was admitted to the Grey ifiver Hospital yesterday, .suffering from a broken leg, as the result of a fall of rock at the mine. On Saturday, June Ist. the Arabura Home Nursing Class entered for its practical examination. Fourteen of .lie twenty-three members entered. A record pass was obtained, all the entrants passing with honours. On behalf of the class, Mrs Houston senr., presented Sister Christian with a handsome pair of 'motoring gloves, as a token of appreciation of the capable and interesting manner in which she conducted her lectures. Afternoon tea was served, after which a vote of thanks was passed to Matron Lloyd as examiner.

Present: Messrs IV. Wilson (voted to the chair), J. L. Turner, T. W. Duff, J. Niven, H. M. Coulson and Dr Teichelmann. Apologies were made for the absence of Messrs Evans and Maloney., The Hokitika Borough Council notified the appointment of representatives to the Committee. Mr Turner, the new representative was welcomed by the Chairman. It was decided not. to subscribe at present to the League of Nations publications. It was resolved to substitute “World’s Work” for Scribner’s Journal. Accounts to the amount of £lO were passed for payment. It was the Toohey Cup that was won by the Excelsior seniors and the Preston Cup by the Kiwi juniors in the seven aside tournament. Mr 1C X. Clark of the Ross Post and Telegraph Department has been notified of his transfer to Picton and leaves for that place shortly. At the Hospital Board rooms last evening an Examination was held in connection with the nursing course for the Red Cross Peace Time work. Eleven candidates sat for the junior course and one for the senior written course. Mr D. J. Evans was the supervisor. Subsequently Matron Lloyd conducted an examination in practical nursing work. At the close of the evening’s class work, refreshments were served and a presentation made to Matron Lloyd for her kindness in conducting the examination work, and pleasing references were made to the work of Sister Christian who had conducted the instruction classes.
