A PRESENTATION

TO EX-SUPT. W. 0. BKADDON BY MEMBERS OF THE HOKITIKA FIRE BRIGADE. Following the conclusion ol the annual meeting of the- Hokitika Fue Brigade last evening, the members of the Brigade adjourned to their Club room to spend a social hour. Supt. Mclntosh, in proposing the first toast of. ex-Supt. Braddon, referred to the lifelong service given by Air Brjicklon as- a member: A>f the Hokitika Fj?e Brigade, extending over a .period-j of: 48i- years during iwliich time lie had 1 served for many years as an officer- alid Superintendent. r J lie Chairman, said they all recognised the Very great service rendered’ 1 by their late Superintendent, and members felt that apart from anything in which the'citizens) should do, ! i(jiai , they .would 1 like.jio meet their foVfifer/ chief as they were doing that-jnigiit, and make a presentation as a personal expression .qLjtfieir. good feeling to him and appreciation of the Song andi faithful service he had rendered to the Brigade, it was therefore with great pleasure that ’lie asked Air Braddo li (wno had been elected an honorary member of tho Brigade at a previdiis meeting) to accept, as a 'token .of theV.r eSt.eein, a -handsome gojldwatch, suitably inscribed. Making the presentation ' the Gliairhian ’• expressed tne hope that Mr Braddon would ,ong live td he able 1d tell the time from their little gilt. lie asked them to rise and drink the health of their ex-Superinteiident. Members heartily drams the toast, according hearty musical honors.

■•Mr' Braddoh, on rising to repß/ spoke in very feeling terms ' of his long connection with the Brigiiile. He thanked them deeply and sincerely for their very handsome presentation. He deeply • appreciated their gift and especially the good feeling that accompanied it. References were made to many of the happenings Of the Brigade in past years, some joyful and some that were sail, arising out of the work of - the Brigade aiul in referring to the latter he instanced that there was always a feeling with him that every care should be taken by their chief officer in safeguarding the general public, and this "had always engaged his very best attention. Appreciation of the generous support that lie had always received from members was voiced feelingly and Air Braddon concluded an interesting and feeling address by again expressing lii.s heartfelt tlmiiks to his old comrades for tlieir very generous expression of appreciation.
