, CAHS COLLIDE. MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED. (By Telegraph—Press Association). • HASTINGS, June 1. ; A collision of cars driven respectively by Sim Land, of Havelock North, and A. F. M. Symes, of Longlands, a well-known sheep farmer, occurred last evening at Pukahu—Longland intersection on the main Palmerston North road. Lands’ car appears to have struck the other amidships, resulting in Symes being seriously injured and iie is in the hospital in a critical condition. A dog on Symes’ running board was killed. Land escaped with a had shaking and a Ifew bruises.

CHRISTCHURCH, June 3

Two elderly men died suddenly at the Addington racecourse during the progress of the trotting meeting today. In. each case the man was standing in front of tlie- totalisator; one of them presumably; to collect a dividend.

Edward Dryden, 76 years of age, collapsed in a fit at 11.15 a.m., and died in a few minutes. The second victim was an elderly man, Frederick Taigel, a pastrycook, who died suddenly after the last race. He had been in failing health fulsome time.
