Harry William Smith was convicted in the Magistrate's Court to-day before Mr E, C. Levvv, S.M. of having been drunk while in charge of a motor car. He was sentenced to loiirteen days’ imprisonment without ’.the option of a- line. Smith drove bis car into an open french, which had been dug in sewerage operations, lie admitted having token live wines in the afternoon, but other witnesses declared that lie was not drunk, and said further that the .street was in a deplorable condition, ami that-other persons quite sober had driven cars inlo this-sower trench.
