A SLIGHT COLD
(Received this day at 11.25. a.m.) LONDON, May 30.
A Windsor message states the King had a slight cold on May 291.1 i and remained in bed to-day on medical advice. He was attended by Dr Hewitt. His illness is the outcome of a picnic party, which was held in the grounds of Frogmore on Sunday in celebraion of the Queen’s birthday. It was held in the late afternoon, when although the sun was shining, a cool wind was blowing. The Kin" lias not left his room since Sunday night, but for the first- time was abed to-day. It is hoped his illness will be conquered in time to allow His Majesty to attend the thanksgiving service.
THE KING’S RELAPSE.
(Received this day at noon.)
LONDON, May 30
On Monday, the King’s birthday, the usual ceremonies including trooping of the colours will take plac-e. The “Daily Express” says with so many momentous political events in the immediate future, the King’s relapse creates an unprecedented situation, but the Council of State which lias hot lost authority will deal with questions arising from the election. The question of a Regency however will now arise in a more serious form than before.
An eminent .physician commentin ' on the news of such a condition, said it could have no relation whatever to the illness from which the King has just recovered. IT would not be the initial cause or- he affected by it in any way. It may he a mere chill to which anyone is liable. 1 Lord Dawson returned .from the Continent by air to-day. . He had not been expected back in London foranother month. The Duke and Duchess of York were in formed by i telegraph as ■ soon] aS they readied Lo'n’don from 'Udinhul'gli.
The Trifled of Wales and other Royalties were also informed.. It is learned the news was communicated to the Deanery of AY estmi lister, but there is no suggestion of any alteration in the arrangements for the Ah'bey service on 16th June.
