AVELLIXGTOX, Alay 31. So mo interesting facts were given at a meeting of the Acclimatiffition Society. The President (Air Tripp) stated the Society lias applied to the Government lor permission ter kill stoats and weasels where there were no rahhits. Particularly in forest areas where rabbits did not exist, they were an enemy to bird life. He had been informed that 31,000 rats and 2,000 stoats and weasels were caught hy trappers of opossums in Wellington district last season. The Society had a reserve of 500 acres at Paraparaunni and was considering the advisability of putting on a man to trap stoats and weaesls, subject, of course, to the Government's permission, with a- view to lessening the destruction oif bird life.
It had been shown that in opossumlrapping districts bird life was increasing.
