ROTARY CONFERENCE

ROTARY GOVERNOR. itinned Presso Association —By Eiettiic leiegrupli—Copyright;. (Received this day at 11.25. a.m.) NEW YORK, May 29. Dallas (Texas) messages state that Holtz’s election as the' new District Governor for Australia was confirmed oy the Rotary Conventiu... ELECTION OF OFFICERS. NEW YORK, May 29. The names of Eugene Newsom, (of Durham, North Carolina) and Raymond Knoeppel (of New York), were pmced for nomination for President of the Rotary International. No other nominations were made. The new officers will he chosen by a secret ballot to-morrow. Rufus Chapin, of Chicago, was renominated as lnternatinal Treasurer without opposition. A preliminary discussion on the motto brought out two interesting viewpoints. The thought was advanced that the word profit has no place in the international slogan and that it was subject to misunderstanding. Delegates from countries other than the United .States further pointed out that the translation of the old motto into language other than English and yet to capture the true spirit of unselfishness which it contained, was peculiarly difficult, especially because of the word profit. The brevity of the now slogan and peculiar fittingness on its sentiment in view of the Rotaiy s international viewpoint as differentiated from a society purely for business men made “service above self” of the widest appeal.
