SATURDAY HALF HOLIDAY
SIR JOSEPH WARD’S OPINION. GHIUSTCHURGC- May 29. Sir Joseph Ward mentioned, in tho course of an interview yesterday thathe was prepared to test the feeling of Parliament on the question of a univer sal Saturday half-holiday. “I mentioned to a deputation in the north,” he said, “that I was prepared to ascertain the feeling of. tlie members of the House upon this matter, and, il t,.0 consensus of opinion was in favour cif it, we would assist in the promotion of legislation to have one universal Imlf-holiday for the whole country. Speaking in general terms, , it is obvious that it would he a much hotter system to have a universal half-holiday than the fragmentary methods as present in existence due to the different days in different localities. However me matter is one that can only he done by goodwill among tho people concerned, and tnc only way in which that can he satisfactorily ifocussed is by ascertaining the opinion of the people’s representatives.”
