YOUNG MAN’S STORY. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, May 29. In the Police Court this morning, a young man, who was represented by Air S. Ritchie, pleaded guilty to charges of converting to his own use six motor ears on various days from May dth. to May 18th. Senior Sergeant Fox said that maters had been somewhat complicated by an air of. mystery that had been introduced since, his arrest by the accused. 'l'lie accused had stated that be mot a man named Kennedy, who took him to a, place near St. John’s Church, and pointing out a, car,, told him that it belonged to his uncle, and asked him to drive to Kennington. All of the subsequent removals were done under the inf!ue.nwgof this man. After inquiris had been made, however, the

police had come to the conclusion that there was no such person. The accused had stated that a car which was damaged on a bridge had been driven by Kennedy, who was learning to drive, and who had run it into the bridge. Air Ritchie, for the defence, said that the conversions took place between 2.30 p.m. and 9 p.m. from places where the police were moving about. From that it might appear that the hoy thought he had some colour ol right to take them. The offences-' had taken place over a period of 17 days, and counsel asked that they bo treated as one. The Magistrate said that he would take a little time to consider what should he done, and would give his;deeis’on in the morning. The suppression of accused’s name was granted.
