Messrs Al. Houston, and Co. will sell by auction in the mart on Friday next at 2.30 p.m. a large quantity of household furniture and effects, particulars of which appear in the advert isemeiit in this issue.

The death of -Mr Robert Brake, which took place on Monday at the age ot seventy-seven, removes one of the earliest residents of Rieearton. In 1883 lie established the business which was long well known as Brake’s Store, at Church Corner, Upper Rieearton-. The building was destroyed by fire only u short time ago. The late Air Brake left. a. large family. One son, Air ,1. |, Brake, had a- store at Arthur’s Pass, and during the coaching days conducted the refreshment rooms there. Another son, Air Henry Brake, is a builder at Rieearton. .
