THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES.
ELECTION POSSIBILITIES. The Socialists, then, as tilings stand, will return to the House of Commons as the largest of the three parties, and will he called upon to form a Cabinet. There is only one way to avert that consummation, and it is the way we have indicated by a conservative and Liberal fusion. The aiiti-Socialists are still in a majority in the cons.ituencies; if they voLe solidiy together they can defeat those whose principles and methods they dislike. Unhappily, they arc divided into two sect.ons, which have been expending most of their efforts in weakening one another. j* this unreasonable course is pursued at the general election scores of seats ivill be carried for .lie Socialists by a minority vote. We urge that this impracticable po.icy rdiould be abandoned. Lil>erals and Conservatives have, and will e'.ntiniie to have, points of difference. Rut they are at one on the main issue before the country. —London Daily Mail.
