WIFE POISONED
DEATH SENTENCE COMMUTED. (Australian Press Association) SYDNEY, May 24. The New South Wales Cabinet to-day commuted the death sentence on A listen- Clark to life imprisonment. He will never lie released. Clark had a sensational trial on March '2O, on the charge of poisoning his wife while she was ail inmate of a Coast hospital. Evidence was given unit Clark visited his wife at the hospital on many occasions, and gave her (Involutes, which the Crown alleged contained arsenic. The wife died and Clark a few days later remarried. The police had the first wife’s body exhumed. Traces of arsenic were found In the stomach. Arsenic was also found in Clark’s pockets. . Clark swore that be was innocent. The jury, after many "Tours of deliberation, found him guilty. He was sentenced to death. Hie case excited great public interest.
