STORM OF PROTEST

AUCKLAND, May 22. A statement hv Dr E. G. Guiisbn that lie had no confidence in what In* termed the “Wallace policy” of the Auckland Hospital Board, raised a storm of protest- at the first meeting ot the new hoard.

Yesterday Dr Gunson dropped something in the nature of a bombshell into the proceedings by suggesting that no committees should be appointed until a special committee, with himself as chairman, bad drawn up a comprehensive policy. After a heated discussion, Dr Gunson’s proposal was put to the vote, and he was its only supporter. Air Wallace is the board’s chairman.

BOY DROWNED

NAPIER, May 22

A drowning accident occurred on the Tutackuri River, Napier, this afternoon, when Kenneth Rea, the eight-year-old son of a daii-yman, over-bal-anced while playing with, a companion on a launch, and was swept downstream. The launch was moored to the branch of a tree overhanging the rive'r and to gain it the ho.vs had to climb along the brunch, and then pull the launch 'under them. They gained the vessel' safely, and were playing about when the accident happened. The rivet at the time was swollen and dirty through* 'recent floods, and the body has not yet been recovered.
