Mails which left Wellington on 23rd. April per Makura via San Francisco, arrived at London on 22nd. Mav.

A well-known circus which has just completed a tour of the Dominion, was packing up on the Queen’s wharf for. Sydney. Some of the men were con-, gratulating the company generally ona wonderful escape from what might, well have been a tragedy; at Manakau when performing, there, a few days ago. In a high gale, the tent-collapsed and fell to the ground,, enveloping’ h large number of people. Tlfere .was,'tremendous excitement for a'while, 1 but when the tent had been raised it was found that no one had received the slightest injury. The circus foreman said that one or two of the tent poles weighed as , much as 30cwt.
